The Acrobatic Squad took part in their first competition of the year on the 14th March. We were proud to host the Northern Ireland NDP Championships in our Balloo venue.

Although the first competition it was an important one, as the winners from each section get the opportunity to represent their club at the British NDP Finals in May. With a large number of gymnasts taking part RGTC looked to be in a good position to proceed to the finals.

The day started with what would prove to be the closest section of the competition, the Grade 1 women’s pairs. With three pairs in this section we were well represented, and in the end the top three places were separated by only 0.2, with 1st place going to the pair from comber and both 2nd, and 3rd to RGTC. We would like to congratulate the girls on fantastic performances and can’t wait to see them compete next month at the Irish Qualifiers.

 From there on RGTC had a clean sweep of the top medals, with some surprising performances from our gymnasts who out did themselves. We also finished the day with the highest score of the competition from Josephine Hammond, Hannah Crymble & Courtney Thompson for their 11-16 World Age Group Trio, and the highest Artistry score form the Grade 3 trio of Zahra Prentice, Rebecca Nixon & Megan McDowell. RGTC will now be sending 14 gymnasts to the British Finals, competing in 6 sections.

The Acrobatic Squad are now preparing for their next competitions which include a friendly with Ace Gymnastics Club from Galway, and the qualifiers for the Irish Acrobatic Finals where we hope to have an even bigger team.We would like to wish them all the best.
