OLYMPIC GYMNAST IMPRESSED WITH LOCAL TALENT
Rathgael Gymnastics Club played host to Great Britain Olympic gymnast, Beth Tweddle during her day long visit to Northern Ireland, on the 28th August 2009.
Beth, who was visiting under the auspices of the ‘Athletes Direct’ programme was given demonstrations by members of the various competition squads that train at the Bangor based club. Squad members were lost for words as they found themselves having their warm up routines conducted by the former world champion.
During lunch, Beth along with other invited guests was given a brief presentation which served to highlight how the club has developed to the point were it is now the only club in Ireland that offers such a wide array of gymnastics disciplines.
Commenting during her visit, Beth Tweddle said: “I have been very impressed with the standard of gymnastics that I witnessed here today. The dedication of the gymnasts, the keenness of the staff, the organization of the club and the plans for development all demonstrate that Rathgael is a club with clear and determined goals. I wish them every success for the future and look forward to learning of their progress.”
Club manager, Arlene Clarke was thrilled to have Beth visit for the day, she said “Beth’s visit will serve to give a real boost to the gymnasts and the coaches at Rathgael. We are very, very grateful to Beth for taking the time to come and visit us and we wish her every success in the world championships which will be held in London’s O2 arena in October.”
