RATHGAEL GIRLS EXPERIENCE ‘ GYMNASTS TOGETHER’
Friday, 27 November 2009 12:18

Members of Rathgael Gymnastics Club have attended a Peace and Reconciliation event in the Foy Centre, Carlingford, Co.Louth
‘Gymnasts Together’ is a new Cross Border Cross Community Gymnastics Initiative which has been designed to develop links, skills and friendship among advanced level rhythmic gymnasts. Rathgael manger, Arlene Clarke commented “This was a great opportunity for some of our gymnasts to go and spend time with other girls who they have ever only encountered before in a competition environment, this experience gave them a chance to take a step back and have some fun and it allowed the girls to explore their many similarities rather than superficial differences”.
Over the weekend, as well as training together the girls helped local horticulturist Pamela Whitaker plant two rose bushes that symbolised each group of gymnasts from north and south. They also partook in an art class where they had a chance to design and create some fantastic masquerade masks with feathers and jewels. On Saturday night they all got ready in their fancy dress costumes and headed to a Halloween party in Carlingford Sailing Club.
The event was held under the auspices of the Louth Peace 3 partnership which is a cross community initiative aimed at encouraging young girls to get involved in a variety of different sports such as gymnastics.
Carlingford Community Development in conjunction with Gymnastics North east and Rathgael Gymnastics Club are very eager to work closely together towards building strong links with cross border cross community groups.
